France Uncorked Chateau le Clou

Manuel Killias

Manuel Killias is proprietor of Chateau le Clou in the Monbazillac region of Bergerac. Of Swiss origin, he is by training a chef, but his love of wine brought him to South west France, in the first instance to learn about wine at the Bordeaux Wine School, and later to purchase his own vineyard.

His wine is organic and is therefore governed by the 'agriculture biologique' rules of Ecocert. His vines are free from any chemical fertilisers, and the ground is cleared mechanically.

Treatment is by natural product - copper and sulphur - whose usage is limited and complemented by products of plant origin such as nettles and seaweed extract, as well as horse manure. The plant extracts help and stimulate the plant defence mechanisms.

Fertilization is through natural organic feed.

As a chef, Manuel takes a keen interest in the close relationship between the wines and the gastronomy of the region.
