A huge triangle of land between the River Garonne to the south and the Dordogne to the north, the Entre-Deux-Mers region is a vast chalky plateau 100 metres high.Traditionally an area known for its excellent white wines, reds are now also produced in the area.. However, only dry whites carry the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation (produced from Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle grapes). The red wines of the region carry the appellation 'Bordeaux' or 'Bordeaux Supérieur' There is plenty to occupy the tourist from small Roman churches to impressive Benedictine abbeys, and often their history is intertwined with the main industry of the area. The imposing abbey at Sauve-Majeure was instrumental in clearing ground for vine-planting purposes, due to their requirements for wine for mass, as well as 'entertaining'. We work with a small, family-owned, organic vineyard - Chateau Ferran - located at Saint Pierre de Bat, near Cadillac, in the south of the region |
