Entre-Deux-Mers
Alain and Béatrice Ferran took over Chateau Ferran, near Cadillac in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, in 1976. They began the conversion process several years ago to 'organic' accreditation and in 2004 received their "AB" ("Agriculture Biologique") certification.
The chateau comprises 20 hectares, about three quarters of which is laid to red grapes (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon), whilst the rest is white (Sauvignon, Semillon and Muscadelle). Each parcel of grapes has its own characteristics, depending on whether it has come from clay or chalk soil (or Boulbène in the case of Semillon), and is vinified separately to maintain these individualities.
The average age of the vines is 20 years.
The range consists of traditional unoaked red and white, oak-aged red and white and a rose.
