France Uncorked Domaine Gimet still house

Domaine Gimet

Jean-Pierre GimetThe Gimet family can trace their history back to pre-French revolution times. For four generations they have lived in Cazeneuve and have always been involved in agriculture and distilling. Jean-Pierre Gimet owns 26 hectares of vines with which he makes his Armagnac. He also acts as 'négociant' for some international clients.

Jean-Pierre uses 5 'Armagnac' stills combined with 'Cognac-style' stills to make his eau-de-vie. During the distillation period (this occurs between November and February), Jean-Pierre spends many hours tending to the distillation, and Jean-Pierre Gimet in the tasting roomreceives many visitors keen to sample the latest spirit ('eaux-de-vie blanches'), straight from the still. The spirit has a wide variety of fragrances and taste, depending on the origin, since as well as distilling his own wines, Jean-Pierre distils for several other small farmers throughout the area.

Jean-Pierre's basic range consists of an Armagnac that is about 12 years old - 'Hors d'Age' and a 20 year old 'Vieille Réserve'. However, special bottlings can be arranged to celebrate special occasions and anniversaries. Even personalized labels can be arranged.
