France Uncorked Chateau le Clou

Chateau le Clou

Chateau le Clou is situated in the heart of the Monbazillac region near Pomport and overlooks its 28 hectares of vineyards, set in the rolling western Dordogne countryside.

The area is steeped in history and legend has it that it was here the 100 years war began.
In the 11th Century Pomport was a small commune in Monbazillac, belonging to the 'Châtellerie of Montcuq'. In total there were 12 parishes grouped around the stronghold, none of which have left any traces today.

Ancient cartographic documents show that in the year 1200, the 'Côteaux du Tertre de Montcuq' were already under vine, and the wines were regularly served at royal table.

The best way to understand the 'terroir' is through the wine itself; its syrupy sweet white wines, dry and even 'sparkling' whites, whilst the red wines are fruity and full-bodied. This diversity can be put to good gastronomic use, with wines to accompany each course from aperitif, through main course to dessert, whether we are talking simple 'country fare' or 'culinary experience'.
