France Uncorked Chateau la Moulière

Chateau la Moulière

Chateau la Moulière has its roots back in the 11th century, which is when its old tower was built. It is in a splendid position overlooking the Dordogne valley, and is only about 3 kilometres away from the Monbazillac appellation.

The place is steeped in history: In the 17th century, the archives of the Gageac-Rouillac commune talk about the 'vigneron of la Moulière', indicating the long history of viticulture associated with the chateau.

More recently Monsieur Bouchot acquired the chateau in 1948. He subsequently found his daughter had a keen interest in wine production, and took over the running of the chateau, and later still it was her daughter, Madame Colette Fournier, who continued the family tradition in producing wine at the chateau.

Chateau la Moulière's vines, located in the Dordogne valley, grow on chalk-clay and flint subsoil. Its Cotes de Bergerac sweet white wines are made from 65% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle grapes. Its Bergerac rouge appellation is made from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Madame Fournier lives at Chateau de Bonhoste, in the Bordeaux region, with her husband and family.
